Weekly Updates

Good Afternoon Everyone!!

So last week was a strange and short week for me since I was out on Monday (3/3/14) and had to come in late on Tuesday (3/4/2014) thanks to the crazy snow storm back home in New Jersey. On Monday, the students went on a field trip to an indoor playground in Watertown. They had a lot of fun being able to run around and have fun. With the cold and bitter winter we have been having, we are taking every opportunity we can to get out of the Medical Daycare building and explore. We are just waiting for the warm weather so badly...

Until then... we had a productive three short days filled with expressive art therapy, music therapy, and Liz the Boston Librarian came by and read a few of her favorite books to us. In the pre-school classroom, we started working on collaborative canvas finger print paintings in which we mixed primary colors with our hands. We are going to continue to build off of these paintings and layer them using printmaking techniques and more sensory painting opportunities. The students LOVE to paint. We have been using these canvas in both the toddler and pre-school classroom.

We are also working on our counting skills - we are using the lids of our baby food jars that have cute animals on top of them to make counting fun and interactive. We are also continuing with letter recognition, fine motor skills by tracing and stamping with bingo markers, shape and color recognition, and reading books together whether it be via the use of the iPad or an old school hard copy book. The best part of everyday is the students practicing writing and spelling their name, and saying the letters out loud. The pride on their faces is priceless .

If you come into the Medical Daycare space, you will notice that I updated the bulletin board last week with new student art work. We also have a new interactive calendar in the pre-school classroom that I use during circle time to have the students practice looking at the days of the week, counting the days of the month, and learning which month it is (past, present and future).

Today, we went to the Children's Museum in Boston and had a lot of fun. I will post more pictures in a little bit from last weeks finger painting and canvas activities....the computer is acting a little funky right now.

Thanks for stopping by!

Best,

Allison
