Hello Everyone...
Last week was really exciting and full of a lot of fun. To start the week off, we traveled to the Museum of Science in Boston. We had a lot of fun playing with in all of the different exhibition spaces and learning about different things such as animals, the weather, space and human life cycle. We even got to watch two baby chicks hatch...they were so cute. We definitely stayed at that exhibit for awhile waiting for the baby chicks to hatch. Unfortunately, one of the employees in the exhibition space told us that it could take up to 24 hours for a baby chick to hatch.
After that, we spent the rest of the week enjoying the nice weather outside. We played on the playgrounds at the hospital, went for a walk around the neighborhood and even played soccer in the hospitals Wake field together. Everyone was really enjoying the beautiful weather and bright sun.
We also spent last week painting with bubble wrap, stamps, paint brushes, bingo markers, and drawing with markers. We have a lot of canvases and are really enjoying experimenting with different ways to use paint, but also mixing colors. Everyone's favorite color to make seems to be orange, by mixing red and yellow. Aside from that, we have been reading stories, singing songs, and practicing basic skills such as counting numbers, color and shape recognition, noun recognition, and writing our names. I have been switching between the use of teaching through a flash card system and using the Ipad to keep the children interested and capture their attention span to my fullest ability and capacity.
Within the next month or so, I am working with local art galleries in Boston to plan an art show for all of the beautiful artwork that the students have been creating. I have experience in setting up an exhibition and professionally matting artwork, as I am an artist myself. Hopefully, after I am finished working out the logistics with the galleries I am in contact with, we will be able to host an opening reception where friends, family members and anyone who is interested can come view the beautiful art. We are also planning on silently auctioning off some of the works of art. Auctioning off the artwork will be a fun fundraiser that will go towards our funds to buy supplies for the children and also extra money to go on field trips. This is really exciting news and as I get more information I will continue to pass it on....
On Friday, we had special visitors come from the Boston University Men's Hockey team. They made medical daycare their first stop and came strolling into with huge and plush teddy bears for every kid. The children loved interacting with the hockey players and absolutely fell in love with the teddy bears. We always appreciate special visits from people in the community and everyone is really grateful.
As always, we closed off last week with "Movie Friday". It was Jadelin's turn to pick the movie and she picked "Disney Princess Stories Volume 1". We watched a few episodes from the Little Mermaid and then started our weekend.
*Pictures coming later*
Best,
