Hello Everyone!
So this past week has been a lot of fun. In the pre-school classroom we started a new incentive program that involves the students participating during circle times. If a student participates during circle times and answers prompts and activities correctly, they are rewarded with iPad and Leapster time after nap time. On Fridays, those students are also allowed to vote and pick on a movie. I am a strong believer in positive reinforcement to encourage class participation.
For example, during circle time I use flash cards that have colors, shapes and numbers on them. Students have to identify each color, shape and/or number and they are rewarded a ticket for accuracy. The top 3 scoring students will receive time with the iPad after nap time. Its been working out really well.
For the toddlers this week, we continued painting on canvas using different types of brushes, markers, paint pens, etc. Students are getting better at gripping the tools and exploring the way paint moves on a canvas. They also used crayons and paper this week. Blick art supplies is giving us more canvases as a donation so that they can continue to make more beautiful abstract paintings... I am very excited about this!! :-)
For the art activities of the week, we continued with the marbled paper and shaving cream technique because the students really enjoyed color mixing and making marbled paper. By the time Wednesday rolled around, I introduced a new artist: Jackson Pollock. The students were able to roll marbles around in paint in foil cooking bowls and were amazed to see what happens when the colors started to collide. We did this project for three days - each time I brought out the marbles and paint they all smiled and said "yay were painting!!!" and were able to identify the three primary colors: red, yellow and blue. :-) It made me a very happy teacher.
Before our week ended, we were able to spend some time making Thank You cards for Fenway Park, which I will be handing to them tomorrow during our field trip. We are really excited to get a private tour and see where the Red Sox play and just won a championship!!!
This upcoming week I am going to continue using flash cards, the iPad, and introduce a dry erase marker board game to practice writing letters. The students have done really well tracing their names on dots that I think we are ready to take it to the next level.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and remember to feel free to contact me at anytime at my email: aaubry@fhfc.org
Have a great week and I hope you enjoyed our beautiful warm weekend here in Boston.
